Well done, Dave! I totally agree - it's never a good idea to put all our eggs in one basket. I have found that for some situations online works well, but it is not enough, just like you said.

Since I have to be myself in order to make my business work, my passion is to connect with people. Sometimes you can initially do this, but eventually you will need to make further contact in order to keep connecting. Thanks for pointing this out so well.

Keep the good stuff coming. I'm learning a lot.

Dave, this is an awesome blog. People need to know that the internet is a tool that should be used in conjunction with old school network marketing principles. You are right on point. We must keep it simple to truly be effective and duplicatible. Keep sharing and keep teaching.

Direct mail is great, and there are mailing lists out there (school databases) that are free. I would recommend a direct mail postcard campaign, try and get in some catalogs, also you might want to target colleges with education programs - the cool things they discover in their college classes (and build lesson plans around) they tend to take into their jobs as innovative ideas.

Dave - At the end of the day, no matter how you do it, networks are grounded in personal relationships and trust. You can establish those with both old school and new school tactics. It probably is true that you need a new school "air attack" today just to keep the pipeline filling as fast as possible, because it is easier for folks to get distracted and bail on you today. And the old school "ground game" is a better way to create the personal connections that keep people on your team. That is why live events are so key for online businesses. Like most everything in life, the key to long term success is massive action + balance.

Thanks for Your efforts. Chip

I think that putting all of your eggs into one basket can create a huge mess when the basket falls. I think a combination is wonderful. I agree, there is nothing like the good ol' face to face. People are certainly more comfortable with someone they can look in the eyes. I am fairly new to the online business building model but I will say that it too has been a wonderful tool. I would never say that the old school methods don't work. Everything isn't for everybody as the saying goes and there are going to be those that only want to deal face to face and vice versa.

Hi Dave,

Online marketing is still new to me, but I've seen the power of connecting with people online. It seems like relationship building is the common factor in old school and online marketing techniques. I agree with your point that selling online is getting harder because of increased spammy practices and consumers' growing mistrust. I like the offline networking: meeting new people, developing a relationship that can grow into a partnership or client. I realize it takes a combination to build an online presence.

I appreciate your tips, Dave. You and Dawn are leading the way for those of us who are building successful and ethical businesses.

Take care,
Larry

Dave,

Thanks for inviting me to visit your group, and for the opportunity of airing my thoughts on your comments. Yes i agree with you that both methods of marketing has it's place in the scheme of things.

We have heard it said so many times. There are examples of people having come online and joined some company that promised them a lot but did not deliver, half or any at all of what was promised.

Whose fault is it, what happened? did the business owners deliberately set out to trick somebody, or is it a case that the newbie just did not understand what was imparted to them so there fore they could not make a success of it,

Now after trying for a while and their goals are not achieved, these persons would naturally become a bit sceptical when some body else comes along to sell them this wonderful opportunity that is the best thing since Slice Bread,

In most instances they would have lost some money that they could not afford to, in the first place, just trying to make that big or even moderate break,

It stand to reason that these persons would become more suspicious as time went by,even to the point of passing up some really good opportunities that could give them a headstart to finally realising their dreams.

On the other hand if i know you personally Dave, and you said to me Carol this is a good program, i have been a part of it for so long and the Administrators are honest and really wants to see you progress. So you can work with them.

In that second scenario as long as i was looking for a business, or even if i wasn't ,but the fact that i know you and you are recommending this programe. Then i would certainly be more inclined to join.

Let us not forget that even though we know many persons Family and Friends included, they might not want or have the time to be bothered with maintaining a business online,
considering it's hard work and quite time consuming,

So the only people who will do it are the Marketers who are commited to it and is in for the long haul. But definately many of the experts have taught that the only way to become successful online is to combine both methods.

So Question , Who came first the Chicken or the Eggs:)

Love Carol
