Social Media is a Bunch of CRAP!

A lot of people do nothing but waste their time with Social Media. I mean think about it for a second. Typing on Twitter that “I just ate a dill pickle.” Who gives a crap! Get a life! People on Facebook send me all kinds of Gifts, Farmland pieces and Mafia War stuff. Once again, who gives a crap people! People on Youtube making videos about the “Most Useless Facts!” I don’t have time for this CRAP and neither should YOU!

Social Media Crap!

Social Media Crap!

All around us we hear the doom and gloom about the economy. I hear it all the time “I don’t have enough money”, “I don’t have enough time with my “JOB”, the kids and everything I have to do all day.” But you have enough time to sit there and tell someone you just ate a Dill Pickle? Give me a break!

We currently live in a New World Revolution. Opportunities are all around us and you are not willing to step up and take advantage of it. Now I’m not talking about getting in to a business and start using social media to SPAM people on the internet. Because that technique doesn’t work and once again it’s a bunch of crap! You truly need to understand technology and understand how you can position yourself TODAY to take advantage of this opportunity we have in front of us.

When was the last time you picked up a good book that could change your life? Just reading 10 pages of a good book, reading an excellent blog post, listening to positive audios rather than music could have a major impact on your current situation. But when was the last time you did any of these things?

Dawn and I just finished an excellent book called “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. In this book Malcolm Gladwell talks about how it takes 10,000 hours of being in the right position to achieve massive success. What are you doing right now in your 10,000 hours that is going to secure yours and your family’s future? Working hard at your job making your boss rich or doing something to improve yourself?

We have four plus businesses with multiple location, go to our Networking meetings at least twice a week, build our blog, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and other social media sites, read great books and audios, walk the dog, exercise, take time with the family, help our girls with school functions and handle everything that life throws at us. And you don’t have enough time with your busy schedule. Give me a break! We are all busy but what are you busy doing? Get a life! Speaking of that, one of my favorite authors is Larry Winget. Want to read a good book that’s wake up call? Read Larry’s book “Shut Up, Stop Whining & Get A Life!”

I know this post is getting a little long but this is some good stuff! Nobody is going to change your life but YOU! The government isn’t going to bail you out if you are loosing your home. Your company doesn’t care about how this latest round of layoffs impacts your family. You need to take care of yourself and the time is now!

Social Media is the NEW Information Revolution if you position yourself correctly. Take a look at these stats and how long it took to become the norm. Radio 38 years, TV 13 years, the Internet 4 years, and the iPod 3 years to reach 50 million users–while Facebook reportedly added 200 million users in under a year. Think social media isn’t powerful when used correctly?

Have you ever really wanted to be at the right place at the right time but it just never seems to happen. Imagine walking in to that convenience store and having that hunch to buy that lottery ticket. Using Social Media properly could be that winning lottery ticket and the biggest shift in wealth since the industrial revolution!

So what are you doing when you use social media? Are you sharing information like “I just ate a Dill Pickle?” or are you positioning yourself to take advantage of what we have in front of us? It’s all up to you and your future depends on what you are doing right now at this very moment! Do you want things to change? Then you had better wake up and think about what you are doing or should I say, What You Could Be Doing!

Here’s an excellent video to prove my point. This new video is based on Erik Qualman’s book Socialnomics. socialnomics.net You may have seen it before but it’s still a great wake up call.

Get in the Game and start changing your future. If you are not sure how, hit us up somewhere and we’ll see what we can do to help you. But do me a favor in the process, Shut Up and Stop Whining about what you don’t have! Because in the end, it’s all YOUR FAULT!

Thanks Paul Klaszus! I like that label and felt that it was fitting in this post. lol

Great post and to the point. Social Media is Cool if it's done right, but the real trick is how to syndicate your content correctly using Social Media. That's where Tribe Syndication comes in. Two great videos to watch and learn more.

But come on “The Dave Cook” – “The Gordan Ramsay of Blogging” you don't sound or look English to us one bit. Now pass us our dam pickle!

    Thanks,

You hit a point here, didn't you!? I agree that Social Media has it's place. Getting aligned with like-minded people to support and share relevant content is the way to go.

    Thanks for sharing your viewpoints!

I agree that social media is about aligning yourself with like minded people and really connecting. Great write up. Love the picture.

  4. May 14th, 2010 at 22:40 | #4

Quite the rank Ramsay. It is certainly a transformation and an exciting time to be alive.

  5. May 15th, 2010 at 01:09 | #5

Awesome!! I love the approach in this blog – and I am grateful you spared us the F Bombs that Ramsay would've used!!

We truly are into a new age – and it cannot be ignored. I love this proverb: The hand of the diligent will rule the world, but the hand of the lazy will be put to forced labor.

Thank YOU, Dave for showing the diligence and leadership in all you do! You are destined to be a ruler!

Don't hold back now! LOL Tell it like it is my friend, nice moves. I think my mind just glazes over most of the trash at this point and I hone in on the goods! Like your stuff for example. ;)

  7. May 16th, 2010 at 03:13 | #7

Rock on! Sometimes a left and right jab are necessary to waken a desire strong enough to overcome obstacles. Bring it or go home.

  8. May 16th, 2010 at 04:05 | #8

i soooo agree! who gives a crap??? more to the point, why do people even THINK that their pickle eating is of ANY interest to us??? Appreciated your comments!

  9. May 16th, 2010 at 14:27 | #9

Right On! I still fall into this trap from time to time -

  10. May 16th, 2010 at 16:44 | #10

Christel, Some people just don't understand social media yet. We are about to change all of this! Thanks! Dave

  11. May 16th, 2010 at 16:46 | #11

Thanks Mark for understanding that some times people need a little tough love.

  12. May 16th, 2010 at 16:48 | #12

Garfield, I never hold back and try to tell it like it TIS! I'm glad you like our stuff! Thanks, Dave

  13. May 16th, 2010 at 16:51 | #13

Hey Paul, I'm not sure I want to be a “RULER” but, helping others achieve their dreams is very rewarding. We can all do our part if we just understand the correct way to approach it.

  14. May 16th, 2010 at 16:54 | #14

Yes Rebecca, it is certainly an exciting time we live in and there's all kinds of opportunities if we just look around and capitalize on them today!

  15. May 16th, 2010 at 16:56 | #15

Lisa, Thanks and I loved that picture as well after I completed it. I thought that it was appropriate for this post.

  16. May 16th, 2010 at 17:00 | #16

Thanks Val! That is why we are aligning ourselves with Masterminds such as yourself. Keep up the great work!

  17. May 16th, 2010 at 17:05 | #17

That label came from Paul Klaszus and thought it was appropriate for this post. Actually if you look at my last name I am English only I lost my accent two generations ago! lol Sorry but we ran out of pickles after doing a lot of tweeting last week. lol

  18. May 16th, 2010 at 18:03 | #18

Just keep plugging away step by step Tim!

  19. May 16th, 2010 at 18:12 | #19

It's ok, Dave… by being a ruler, I don't mean in a political sense; that you're in charge… but rather in the Generation Y sense. Imagine for a moment.. we're 12 year olds playing Space Command 3: The rise of Zolov. My eyes grow wider and wider staring at the TV Screen watching you kick butt and I say, “Dude!! You Rule!”

That's the kind of ruler. (maybe not the kind the proverb was talking about… but I was reminded of it.)

  20. May 16th, 2010 at 22:07 | #20

Dude! You are just too funny. lol

  21. May 17th, 2010 at 13:50 | #21

I love Dill Pickles, however I have no compulsion to tell others of this fetish. I hesitated entering the Social Media for this very thing because all I saw at first was a large segment of society doing what I personally thought a huge waste of time. Thanks for the enlightening post.

  22. May 17th, 2010 at 15:54 | #22

Excellent post, even though I don't like dill pickles! It is possible to waste your life on social sites, just like you can waste your life anywhere, but you can choose to take advantage of all they have to offer, too.
The real question is how you are going to spend your 10,000 hours.

  23. May 17th, 2010 at 19:32 | #23

Social media done right is certainly a very productive use of time for entrepreneurs with an ROI and at times, can't even be measured.

    Thanks for the insights Dave!

Yes, it is always a decision ~ everything is! In each moment, we can choose what we put our energy on, and the outcomes we get will directly correlate! I actually do not think it is unusual to work 60+ hours/ week if your dreams are significant. Knowing that as a reality, and then being effective with your time & energy are 2 of the things I think people struggle with grasping. Thanks for laying it all out, Dave!

And Outliers is my book club's book this month ~ reminder that we meet next week and I haven't even opened it! ;) I have heard it's a great one, so I better get on that!

  25. May 18th, 2010 at 12:45 | #25

Thanks Beth! I have Outliers on audio as well and also have it on my iPhone. I think that I've listened to it about 4 times now. Malcolm Gladwell did an excellent job on this book and this one is sure to be a CLASSIC!

  26. May 18th, 2010 at 12:46 | #26

So true Eddie. Thanks for sharing!

  27. May 18th, 2010 at 12:48 | #27

Thanks Alan! From what I see, you understand the 10,000 hour principle and you are using it wisely!

  28. May 18th, 2010 at 12:52 | #28

Nelson, I'm with you my friend. I love Dill Pickles too and especially a “Peanut Butter and Dill Pickle sandwich.” Sound weird but O'so yummy! lol But I'm with you and don't waste my time telling others about it online. Oops, I guess I just did. ;)

Hi, interesting aspects, but truely issues – in good old germany we experienced this progress some years later. It's sometimes a hard way to explain users, what really happens on social media an the following consequences…

    thx for the video

“We are all busy but what are you busy doing?”

Great point! We can fill our time with a thousand different things but unless we are doing the right things we are just wasting a whole lot of time accomplishing nothing.

Dave, You have done it again. Each of your videos is like a shot in the arm of inspiration, push, right thinking toward success. It reminds me of a lovely video from SimpleTruths.com about Eagles Need a Push. Everybody needs that push to be great.

I read the Outliers and could not put it down. It so clearly explained how being in the right place at the right time may be an important factor in high level success, but you need to have put in those 10,000 hours to be ready when the opportunity appears.

    Hi Dave and Dawn,

great article. I agree, let’s focus on the solution and use Social Media in a way that can benefit everyone.
I believe in writing uplifting things.
You guys are doing a great job utilising the social media.
The last video shows how powerful it is very well.
    Thank you.

Nothing like a good rant! I was talking to this guy the other day and he said – “don’t gripe when you get your money’s worth” about people like you’re describing. If you’re investing your time into trivialities and not into anything big picture, life changing or future building, then don’t complain when your life doesn’t get any better – you got what what you paid for! – Rob

Very on the mark. Social media is a bunch of crap if you don’t utilize it correctly. But if used correctly it ca be very powerful.

  35. November 22nd, 2010 at 01:14 | #35

The key here, as many have said above, is that with all the “crap” out there, it is really easy to shine if you do it right!

    Dave

Once again you grab us and shake us back into reality!! Thanks!! I can say that syndicating and commenting on others blogs does help out. I have moved up in the search engines which is why I do the syndicating that I do. Every time you do something on the internet your name is attached, do make sure it’s good content and do it often!!!

    Hi, Dave,
I totally agree. There is so much noise in the social media arena right now, and I am getting tired for folks filling up cyberspace with absolutely “nothing” comments.

We all know that we should be doing it, but most of us don’t know how to do it well. I will definitely put my focus on doing it the correct way, so that I can make a substantial income. After all, that’s what we are online for, isn’t it?

I think it’s a wonderful, wonderful thing that people will post what they had for lunch — pickle sandwich or whatever. I also think it’s wonderful that I don’t need to FB friend those people. I block as many stupid apps as I can. I don’t want an app so I can ‘receive hugs and kisses’ or invitations to MafiaVille or FarmLand or whatever it is. That would be great if I was still in middle school. But since my future is now riding on what I do with my time everyday, I’m not so excited about Totally Unproductive Social Media Time Wasters! I welcome some time on “HELL’S BLOG!” with Dave Cook! Just saw the TSA Webinar the other night and cannot wait to get involved! Still going through the Seven Trainings! Thanks! — Jupiter Jim
