I think because we all grow up with our family and constantly are in each other's business, and care more... we tend to also hurt them more. I've had issues with one of my family members for a long time and it was hard to keep our dealings with each other out of conversations with other people because it literally spilled into everything I did. I decided after talking with a good friend to try to curb my tongue and I found myself becoming more tolerant of my dealings with that person. I was getting all stressed over stupid stuff.

We cannot control people, including our own family... and in the end, they are the only ones left to turn to in the thick of life.

Thank you so much for your kindness. I have a happy family and I love them so much, but I admit that it is really difficult to maintain this kind of perfect relationship for ever. My family also has experienced the bad things and made us so bad. However, coming over the bad period needs that every member of the family make effort and also needs a member lead to the right direction.

It's funny... I have always been the one to back down when confronted, even when it is not my fault... or let the other person think s/he is right and I am wrong. That isn't always the right thing to do either.

My own personal development in the past few years has helped me to make the distinction between the big and little things. I'm learning to stand my ground on the big things, which isn't often, because as you said, they are not all that frequent. And I don't mind being thought stupid or wrong any more, if it's something that doesn't matter.

It just isn't worth losing the relationship with someone you really love.

Dawn,
Wow the family squabbles! I haven't seen one in awhile but I can remember how bitter and awful they can be if not handled correctly. I will never forget a shouting match between an aunt and uncle at an Easter get together that had some dreadful results for awhile. But luckily the peacemakers and the people with the right attitude intervened and really healed the situation.
